We haven’t had much practical news lately for those of you who are still under the grip of the two month ban from our dearest India. When it first came down from the government I said to precious Diana, ‘six months six months is the best way and the cheapest. We will have to find a safe haven to spend the six months away from our Swami.’ Must have been a divine inspirational thought because that is exactly what has happened to me and also Diana. I’ve bonded with my precious sister in this house where I grew up.
But, some of you, maybe most of you are still so attached to Swami’s form that spending even a second away from Him is agony. Don’t worry, He does it all and has given you that single minded devotion to God.
So my heart goes out to you in your yearning and I’ve discovered a way you can spend the two months away from India without spending all your money.
There are Hostels all over Asia, as well as Europe and the USA of course. If you have a computer look up, Hostels in Sri Lanka or Hostels in Kuala Lumpur, Cambodia or Indonesia. I forgot to look up Laos or (shutter) Burma. What it boils down to is that there is an International Association for Hostels and so they have been inspected. The lowest price is $5 a night and you can find them in Sri Lanka and all the places mentioned above for that amount. 60 days at 5 dollars a night is 300 which almost all of us can afford. And airfares are also cheaper to these near by places.
This will allow you to scamper back to the Lotus Feet without taking in too much of the world. If you don’t have a computer to direct you to these places I’m sure that the various airports have a list of Hostels for back packers. Some of us may be a little too old for back packing but I guess we spiritual immigrants must do what we must. If we had a lot of money perhaps we would have a lot more clout but maybe Swami is keeping us powerless in order to be egoless. That will be the day! Don’t worry, if you’re making these sacrifices so that you can have more of His Divine Darsan, He will definitely help you to find clean safe places where ever you are.
So are we looking for the Atma today? I don’t know, it rained last night and now it is sprinkling. There was an interesting program on the ‘TV Spill’ last night on spiritual communes or communities in the state of Florida. It seems that before the turn of the century a group of ‘spiritualists’ came down here. That community is still very much alive and people go there for ‘readings’ and ‘healings’ as well as séances to communicate with the departed. It really looked interesting although perhaps not my cup of tea right now. Then there is a town called ‘Ave Maria’ which has a large Catholic university and cathedral as well as a township and lots of housing. That also looked interesting, all clean and holy and well organized. Then there was a community on a large lake called, Ganga Lake. An older lady from New York is the resident guru and her teachings of love and service seem to be the same as our Swami’s. They have some kind of yoga practice and also group singing. The best part was the emphasis on service. They feed hundreds of poor people every day and also have a retirement cum nursing home there for elderly patients not in their community. I must admit I really liked that place as it was supposedly non-denominational as well, with little shrines to the Buddha and Lord Jesus tucked around. I probably shouldn’t open my pen but it felt as if they are really one with Swami. I couldn’t help wonder how many of the disciples have been to Prasanthi Nilayam, including the lady guru. I KNOW IT DOESN’T REALLY MATTER AT ALL BECAUSE THEY ARE DOING HIS WORK but I would like to send them a copy of the ‘Beacon of Love’ supplement from the Hindu newspaper….which I have already given to the minister at the Unity church as well as to my sweet nephew and his wife.
