GRAMA SEVA 2011

Om Sairam dearest Sai family

Greetings from the holy land, Puttaparthi. With His divine grace, blessings and His immense compassion, things are looking great in Parthi. The energy levels are high, the tempo is being maintained, the Prashanthi schedule right from Suprabhatam is as it used to be with very peaceful and extended Mahasamadhi darshan arrangements.

GRAMA SEVA 2011

Come the end of september there is always tons of anxiety in the air as the most beautiful festival of Dasara followed by Diwali fast approaches. It is also a great excitement for the people of Puttaparthi and surrounding villages as they would be blessed with Swami's Prasadam as part of Grama seva.
Even for the students it would be a busy schedule as they do the major "home work" and "hard work" right from packing the food packets, sarees, dhothis to distributing to one and all in villages. This "Grama seva" also gives a good chance to students in particular to peep into the lives of the poor villagers where the living conditions are poor, the nutrition levels are poor and even the houses are poor but yet you will find all the villagers content and happy which is a very important point to be noted.

This year's grama seva which is starting from the 28th September to 6th October, is very unique as it marks the 10th Anniversary of this stupendous project which Swami very lovingly started in the year 2000 where He personally monitored each and every aspect of the Grama Seva programme, from selecting the villages, students, mode of transport and also the type of sarees and dhotis to be distributed. Swami's every "work" is very closely knitted with perfection and purity.
This year's grama seva is also very unique as it would be the first Grama seva in His physical absence. There were many rumour mongers who predicted the closure of "grama seva" project from this year. there were some who doubted if this is still in the "Prasanthi Schedule" but our Swami has left His physical form only to "work with more intensity and power" and rest assured, with His grace all the activities would continue for eternity and beyond.

145 VILLGES, 350,000 HOUSES:

This year's Grama seva will cover three mandals surrounding Parthi, Kothacheruvu, Bukkapatnam and Puttaparthi mandals. About 145 villages would be covered as part of Grama seva this year with about 350,000 houses. Each house hold will be given a saree, Dhothi and food packets and Laddu for each member in the family..

Talking of Grama seva we should also mention about the great fortune of few youths from the UK whom Swami very graciously allowed to do the Grama Seva along with the students from the year 2002. In the evening of one fine day in the month of January 2011, I bumped into Mr.Puppet from the UK near Sai Kulwanth hall and his face was brightly lit and he looked very very happy and before I could ask him, he very kindly said, brother Satish, Swami has very kindly accpeted the programme for this year's grama seva programme and with His immense compassion has asked me to bring all the youths who have participated in grama seva over the years to Prasanthi to mark the 10th year of Grama seva programme.. Apparently Mr.Puppet said, Swami! among the boys there are many who are already married and living with children and Swami said, "sabko bulake aana" (bring every one).
Now to keep the promise given to our beloved Lord, there are about 100 youths coming to Prasanthi, old and new, from the UK on the 25th september to play their role in this year's Grama seva programme which I am sure will make Swami very happy.

Dasara sapthaham is going to start from the september 30 in Poorna Chandra Auditorium with poornahuthi on October 6th.

FREE FOOD PROGRAMME:
Not sure how, even though there is no official word yet, but every one in Puttaparthi are talking about the probable launch of Sri Sathya Sai Nithya Annadana Pathakam (free food to all devotees). Some say it will start from Dasara some others say from Swami's birthday. Every major temples in India be it Tirupathi and even Shirdi for that matter, provide free meal to all the Devotees, (provided you wait, sometimes for hours, for your turn). Even though Swami's ashram operates three canteens within the ashram premises, the South Indian canteen in particular is providing a FULL MEAL for just Rs.6 which itself is literally free food scheme as Rs.6 is nothing even for the poorest of the poor.
In this era of high vegetable prices, fuel prices etc, to provide full meal for just Rs.6 is not a small thing. This is where Swami and Swami's ashram stay unique and this free food programme is indeed a noble gesture for Swami's devotees.
The other canteens will operate as usual even after the launch of Free food programme.

VIBHUTHI MATERIALISATIONS:
On a different note, Swami has blessed the General hospital in Puttaparthi with Vibhuthi prasadam as you can see in the pictures with Vibhuthi on them. The black and white photo graph of Swami holding a stethoscope ( Divine Doctor photo) in ward number 14 in the General hospital, has been blessed with Vibhuthi since Septermber 14 2011 and you can also see another Vibhuthi photo of Swami in NORTH 4 block in the ashram. Even though such divine occurences are not new to the Sai world, such a sign of Swami's omnipresence gives immense joy to us the Devotees especially when it happens in His very own Puttaparthi.
On a different note, attached here is a photograph of a poor mother, selling coconuts on the street, definitely an illeterate lady checking her son's note book as he gets ready to go to school. This photo shared by Dr.Amrat Lad of Newzealand is very touching and a definite lesson to all those so called BUSY working women who, inspite of being highly educated, don't have few minutes to look into the child's home work. May God bless this poor mother for her mother hood and love she has for her child inspite of being illiterate and poor..

NO CHANGE IN CHRISTMAS PROGRAMME:
There were many enquiries about the status of Christmas choir which happens on Christmas eve and also the children's choir on 25th December Evening, which for reasons best known was missing from the Prasanthi calender released by the ashram. Even though the Media co-ordinator was notified about this but so far there is no official word but according to a source who is key member for the Christmas programme said that the programmes are as scheduled and they have added Multi faith mass in the double deckar building (conference hall opp.Shopping center) on 27th December and a choir by Croatians on 20th of December in Sai Kulwanth hall.
With Pranams at the Lotus feet of our beloved Lord,
R.Satish Naik

STORY BEHIND THE PHOTO – 28

The Camphor – 2

Sri P.S.A.Srinivasan Chettiar was entrusted by Bhagavan Baba, with a unique and great Job of fixing gold foils in Prashanthi Nilayam. I was most fortunate to be included in the team, by Srinivasan Chettiar, along with Sri. Srinivasa Raghavan, and Sri. Sengodan. We are ever thankful to him for providing a great opportunity to join this Divine Seva.

After finishing the work in Sai Kulwant Hall, we were directed to take up the job in the interior and outside veranda of Prashanthi Mandir. The area around the Altar and the ceiling nearby, seemed pretty bad, and looked oily and blackish. While the work was in progress Swami walked in and was quietly watching the workers engaged in the job. Swami looked up near the altar and showed us the black patches up on the corners of the wall and the ceiling in right hand side of the Altar. Swami engaged us in conversation. Swami innocently asked why that particular place had become tarnished.

By profession, I was technologist in industrial heating systems, and had done many researches on the movements of heat rays. I took pride to explain to swami based on my pride. I explained that the black oily patches had been formed by smoke emanating from the camphor burnt during Arathi every day. I also explained the heat rays and the smoke ultimately goes up slightly in an angle, and not vertically up. Swami was listening as if in awe and wonder. Then he asked me to give suggestion to avoid the recurrence of smoky layer! There are small windows at the highest level, but are always kept closed. I took courage to suggest, it would be better if an exhaust fan is fitted.

Instantly Swami got angry with me, told me, “I am trying to build up vibrations inside this prayer Hall, and you are suggesting something to destroy those vibrations. An exhaust fan in the “Garbha Graha?”

My ego and pride were smashed in a second. I knelt down and prayed Swami for forgiveness. Swami smiled back, and called for Sri Bhat who was the priest in Mandir. Swami told Sri. Bhat, pointing His hands on me, “This Bombay Srinivasan is complaining about you. He says that you are burning too much camphor for Arathi. Henceforth, you should use only a very small quantity of camphor for Arathi”.

Swami was insistent that we should not stop work even during Bhajan sessions. Bhajan will be going on and Swami will be sitting on the Golden Throne listening to the Bhajans and at times looking at the workers who were on the job sitting high above the scaffoldings. On this particular day, during evening Arathi, Swami went near Sri. Bhat to see for Himself how much camphor had been kept on the Arathi plate. And a slight glance towards me with a mischief smile.!!1

Later, I will tell you an another incidence of Swami & the Camphor.

Cosmic Alignment

This is an important message – something that everyone needs to know. I almost never send out messages like this. Sorry if this contradicts anyone’s beliefs/offends anyone. My purpose is not to tell you to do anything, but to inform you of the important things that are happening in our solar system right now. Generally, we don’t think about the importance of stuff in outer space, but right now, it is very important. This is all scientific information, confirmed by NASA’s jet propulsion lab.
From October 28th 2011 to November 5th, the earth will be trailing a cosmic body (comet) called Elenin. Various times in the past (listed below), the earth has aligned with Elenin and another cosmic body, and has caused massive earthquakes on the earth (see table below). Every time Elenin has aligned with Earth, it has caused an earth-changing earthquake, such as Chile, Christchurch, and Japan (which all changed the earth’s orbit by a couple of inches – see Wikipedia). An ordinary comet could not cause this strange activity, and so it has been theorized that Elenin is being closely followed by Nibiru, a brown dwarf star. This star, with its sheer mass and electromagnetic field, could alter the earth as we know it. Please see www.elenin.org for more information.
It is important to understand that these dates will bring huge changes to the Earth. It is up to us to prepare for these changes, by meditating, praying, or whatever you’d do in a time of crisis. Please try to be with your families on these dates, because we don’t really know what’s going to happen. Already the alignment is starting, and there was a 5.9 earthquake in Nepal two days ago.
Know that if we all join together at this time, we can change the world. Many people believe that we have the power to end disasters with prayer and meditation. This is the best time to do this.
Date Alignment Proximity Result
Feb 27, 2010 Sun, Earth, Elenin 6.042 AU* Chile earthquake 8.8
Sep 4, 2010 Earth, Sun, Elenin 6.258 AU Christchurch New Zealand earthquake, 7.2
March 15, 2011 Sun, Earth, Elenin 2.101 AU Japan earthquake 9.0
Sept. 26, 2011 Earth, Sun, Elenin, Mercury .396 AU (This coming Monday)
October 17, 2011 Earth, Elenin, Mars (my note) .232 AU (Elenin crosses earth orbit closest proximity)
October 28-November 5, 2011 Earth Trailing Elenin .348 AU (hit the trail of Nibiru – may cross debris path)
November 11, 2011 Venus, Mercury, Earth, Elenin .433AU (11/11/11 alignment)
November 23, 2011 Sun, Earth, Elenin .596 AU (same alignment as Chile & Japan, only closer)
*AU= Astronomical Unit
On a more spiritual side: These dates have been prophesized by the Hopi tribe for thousands of years. Additionally, it has been discovered that the original Dec. 21, 2012 date “end of the calendar” by the Mayans is only incorrect due to the inaccuracies in our Gregorian solar calendar.

Sai Ram - The peace and quiet...

It is strange being here. The peace and quiet is comforting. The energy from the MahaSamadhi is incredible. Baba’s Love is felt everywhere.

Changes are happening within the ashram. I feel it. People are different. It is all for the better.

While there was no formal program from Sunday – September 11 to Tuesday – September 20, there was Rudram, bhajans, arati and darshan.

It has been a great time to be here. A time to absorb the special vibrations in Kulwant Hall while being blessed by Sai. A time to visit the MahaSamadhi.

The weather has been nice even with a few brief showers.

In years to come, you will have difficulty even getting into the ashram because of the crowds.

Dr. Safaya is leaving the directorship of the Super Specialty Hospital in Puttaparthi on October 7th when he moves for Delhi. He has done an excellent job including managing everything during Baba’s last physical illness.

There are several rumors as to who will replace him. Each of these individuals is already part of the hospital system. The staff knows them and he knows the hospital.

It is certain that the excellent care that has been provided will be continued and newer programs added.

By the Ganesh Gate exit behind the seva dal booth there are 2 new structures. The dark blue one is for security people. The one next to the wall is a lookout post. With everything that has been happening in India, security is a major concern. These structures are just added precaution to keep our lives safe and secure

For those of you who like the South Indian Canteen, there is a rumor that they will start having free lunches for everyone. I believe it will happen but we have been unable to verify when.

Below is a portion of a discourse given by Baba on Shivarathri 1991 where he

spoke about the Chataka bird which is located in Puttaparthi.

“The Chataka bird endures many ordeals to secure unsullied raindrops from the clouds. The moment it espies a dark cloud in the sky, it embarks on its adventure. There is water aplenty on the earth in lakes, ponds and rivers, but the Chataka bird has no use for these polluted waters. It waits for the pure raindrops in the month of Karthika and does not seek any other water. It is undaunted by thunder and lightning. It seeks only the pure raindrops falling from the clouds, without fear or concern. It sings in joy as it drinks the raindrops. The Chataka bird is an example of pure love. The true devotee should perform a similar penance (to realise God). He must have the same determination. He must go through similar ordeals to experience the ultimate ecstasy. He must not succumb to the wiles and attractions of the world. The golden life of man should be tested on the touchstone of the Lord's name.”

Attached is the story of Baba’s visit with Swami Sivananda Saraswati in Rishikesh in

July 1957. Fascinating.

Also, attached is the story of how Almighty God saved a man’s life.

In addition, there is a bal vika’s story from Radio Sai about being a true friend.

You must watch this incredible video http://vimeo.com/28870604. It is called Su Legado. It has subtitles in Spanish. I also saw that there were many videos in Spanish. At any rate, this video was dedicated to Baba. There are some scenes I have never seen before. Be prepared to cry.

Some people got excited because on the last full moon, Sai Baba was seen.

Some robbers in Hyderabad thought that that a family that moved there from Puttaparthi had a share of the gold and other treasures that was at the ashram. They thought everyone who lived in Puttaparthi got a share of the wealth. We did but not the physical kind.

The rupee is at a 2 year low which means that possessors of foreign currency can get a better bargain for their money. For U.S dollars it is up to 47-48.

There has been circulating on the internet a photo which the photographer and then some others claimed was Baba standing at the base of the coffin. After about 10 hours researching, it was discovered that the person is an elderly female staff member.

Her hair identifies her as she is only one that has hair just like that. Other women have similar hair but not quite the same. Also, her sari had a floral pattern.

There are 2 Seema Messages – “A Strong Will to meet the Divine Grace” and “A Basket of Values”. If you want to get her messages directly, contact me.

Thought for the Day

15 January 2011

Service is an expression of gratitude to the society. It should not be done in a spirit of condescension or to achieve some ulterior selfish objective. It should proceed from an awareness of what you owe to society. You must realise that you are bettering yourself by rendering service. Your name and fame, all the comforts you enjoy, are derived from society. Sheer gratitude demands that one should serve society which is the source of all benefits enjoyed by man. What is required for service is not money and materials. A loving heart is the first requisite. All service done without a love-filled heart is as dry as dust. Fill your hearts with love. When you are immersed in the spirit and filled with love, everything looks good and beautiful.

Thought for the Day

13 September 2011

There is no profit in simply controlling impulses. A cobra becomes harmless only when its fangs are plucked out; similarly, the roots of impulses must be burned. Only then can the aspirant attain the Brahman. Of course, even pure desires are a bond. But they are not hindrances, however many they may be. A thorn is removed by another and both are thrown out afterwards, right? So also, when impure impulses are overcome through the influence of pure impulses, one has to outgrow both. This means that even the purest of impulses, the craving for liberation, has to disappear in time. Only then, can you become Brahman. A shackle is a shackle, whether it is of iron or gold. That is to say, one should attain a stage when neither good nor bad will attract or repel. Anyone aiming at the realisation of God should practice the diminishing of impulses, the curbing of the mind, and must strive to understand the fundamental principle of Divinity.

Thought for the Day

14 September 2011

Of all the factories in the world, the factory of the body is the most wonderful, because it is the tabernacle of the Lord. In such a factory, the impulses are sublimated in to vows and the impurities are weeded out, beneficent desires are shaped, and good imaginings are brought about. Uprooting of impulses is a very difficult task. Mountains can be swept away sooner than these deep-rooted impulses. But with willpower and zest, supported by faith, they can be overcome in a short time. Impulses can overpower you and keep you down as their slave. While intoxicants enslave you and hold you in their full grip only for some time, impulses grip you for a whole lifetime! Just do not give up your determination and faith, whatever the loss, hardship, or obstacle. The entire meaning and purpose of meditation is to attain freedom from these mighty and manifold impulses.

More Lesson

First let me say that yesterday went very well. I sang at the senior center across the street for the first time. 'Country Roads, take me home, to the place I belong, West Virginia,' was the song I sang.'Actually it was really 'to the place I belong, Puttaparthi,' but no one knew that. I sang pretty well and got lots of compliments from everyone but as I explained to my sister who came to see me sing....the bar was really low. There was one lady who was pretty good and sang those wonderful sad country songs about how her man had 'done her wrong'. There was also one lady, age 95, I'm not kidding, who sang in a straight line, only on one note and another Vietnamese lady who was also absolutely off key. I didn't know the key when I sang in so it was acopella (never mind google, I can't spell it either) I mean unaccompanied. I never know the key I'm singing in. At Prasanthi we would sound the 'starting note' when beginning a bhajan and that was enough. I'll sing again on Friday. What a coincidence right? That He has had me singing all these old songs from the 60's for a month and for absolutely no reason except to quietly sing them as love songs to Him here in my quiet little flat? Now I am singing them to an audience with a few changes in the lyrics taking out His name and using the generic 'Lord'. Is this blog making any sense? It's just after 4 am and I'm not wearing my teeth. Somehow I can think more clearly with my teeth in.

My sister stayed about an hour at the show so she was away from our 'joint dog' Puggles, for two hours altogether. As a result the dog took almost an hour to quiet down when Betty got home. She yelps and barks and runs in circles as she use to do with me when I left her. We think she was abused before she found us. Did I tell you that the man told me she had given him seven litters of pups in three years. I guess she was always pregnant and he took all her babies away from her, too. Then he got rid of her because he wanted a smaller dog. Good thing for her though as she is soooo loved now by my sister and me.

Anyway with all this running here and there, Puggles and me, I'm having a hard time meditating. Meditating ha ha. I simply fight this mind of mine for about an hour before falling back exhausted to a prone position to sleep. The mind wants to think about Puggles and Christine who's having her problems and now a few people at the senior center have joined the cast. Swami has provided me with a quiet uncomplicated peaceful life but my mind is always on the look out for confusion and trouble and is determined to find these things even if it has to borrow them from people around me.

There are two important lessons to be learned here. One is that all these situations are only my imagination and shouldn't effect me at all. And secondly, He is the only doer and the Lord will take care of all of them even if they don't exist for me, as He takes care of me. I don't have to, in fact I can't, He does it all. It's just 'busy work' for my mind and counter productive to say the least. I am here, alone, with my Swami following His script and just witnessing everything. I actually have no role as I have never been anyone's wife or mother. Free, free, thank God almighty I'm free. I wonder why my mind refuses to see it that way. But with Swami's help, I'll soldier on.

Atmic Up-date

Well, it looks as if I have rejoined the world. I hate to say that but it might be true. Of course we know that, if it isn't His will, He'll throw a monkey wrench into the thing which is OK by me.

Yesterday I went across the street for something called, 'county classics' Got all dressed up with lipstick and eye brows and my new black slippers and, forgetting to take my cane, scurried across the street. It was held in the auditorium and about 20 people, men and women, sang and played guitars; three of four played the piano. All of them were quite elderly in fact there was a round of applause for a ninety year old man who was celebrating his birthday. A few had pretty good strong voices, most sounded pretty feeble. One tall lady in short shorts danced all around wiggling her hips and giggling. I only witnessed the drama but found myself going up front at the end to ask if I could sing next time. As youall know, I've been singing here in my flat lately translating the 'golden oldie songs from the sixties into love songs to Swami. I've done about 70 of them removing words like 'kiss' and replacing it with 'bliss'. I thought I might sing, John Denver's, 'County Roads, take me home' which I rewrote as. 'Take me home to Puttaparthi, mountain Ama, brown hills circle Chittravati'. Now I'll have to change it back to. Take me home, West Virginia, Mountain Mama but it doesn't matter because I will always know where my real home is. Actually Puttaparthi ISN'T my real home either, as we know, my REAL home is my glorious Atmic self.

A couple weeks ago Christine and I hitched a ride with a young man here who was in a very bad accident and drives a specially built car. He's very nice and was telling us that a fellow from the next floor, a retired opera singer, fixed him lunch every day. I have probably mentioned to you that my mother was an opera singer before she married my father, or did I. Anyway I have always sung a bit myself so my ears picked up at that. OK youall know how HE works. There was one fellow at the music thing who had an amazing voice. Afterwards when I went up to volunteer to sing, this fellow was talking to the organizer. I told him I thought he had a glorious voice, a Basso Profoundo and asked if he was the nice man who cooked lunch for Randy. H said that he was and yes, why don't you come and sing next Wednesday. I said I would even without a smile from the organizer. I scurried back across the street. So I guess I will sing and maybe I've at last made a friend here in the building. Inshalla.

I miss my little dog. Everything reminds me of her. The chair she always sat in, the little off color spots on the carpet which I cleaned up but not completely. My sister is better about calling me and telling me about her antics. She is less hysterical now, about being left alone, I mean Puggles. Not my sister. She stays in my sister's room which is down stairs and jumps on the computer chair to bark out the window when Betty comes home. The chair goes in circles and Puggles gets scared. I use to call her my 'circus dog' because she would jump on the recliner and it would tilt over, and jump up on the step table to get on the bed which is pretty high. My lamp just went out by itself so I guess He doesn't like it when I go on about my...my sister's little dog.

Money Goes

I think I told youall last time that I wasn't going back to India because I couldn't afford a round trip ticket. Well I found, through a fellow bloger, a travel agent who does arrange one way tickets. Contacted him yesterday and he was going to work on an itinerary. I hated to tell my sister that I was still going to India but she called me so I did. You know, she seems to be on my side now since our heart to heart conversation. Not on my side instead of on her kid's side but just, on my side too! That's best. Anyway she doesn't think I should go when my money is so tight. You know I have the thousand on the visa card and could pay for the one way ticket from that with a couple hundred to spare. Then I could pay for the visa to travel to India from my account, about 240 or so. I have that but the problem would be in paying off the visa card.

My sister said that visa charges 17 percent interest and so it behooves one to pay it off quickly, like immediately if possible. So I would have to pay that off, about 40,000 rupees, plus buy a one way ticket back to the States and if I only stayed three months, that would be precious little time to come up with about 75 thousand rupees and, living expenses too. So I'm actually writing this blog this morning, at five am...for feed back. Please tell me why on earth one should use a credit card when you have to pay so much interest?

I think the only answer to that is, don't use the credit card except for small purchases which can be paid off immediately. So, the only solution is to save up the cash before making the trip, right? I need to save up at least two thousand so I can go on a round trip ticket and not have to worry about being stuck in India without money to get back. Isn't that what youall think?

I hate to go on and on about money but sometimes you have to give the devil his due....or should I say, 'her' due in deference to my feminist readers, both of them. When I first returned from the hospital this wellness clinic downstairs sent a fellow up here to give me an ultra sound thingie to check out my aneurysm. (google didn't like the word 'thingie. Well you can't call it a treatment can you?)Anyway, the wellness clinic sent this man up here but yesterday in the midst of all the 'Indian trip trauma' I got a bill for that. $67.00. I'm sure the procedure cost a lot more than that but medicare wouldn't pick up the whole thing. (OK google, I'll go with 'procedure rather than 'thingie' . ) Just as I was opening this bill I ran into the nurse from the wellness clinic and dumped it on her. “Why me?” she complained, “ I'm just the nurse!” It wasn't a nice thing to do but the bill was burning my hand! “I didn't ask for the procedure” I replied.

So medicare is falling apart now because of those rotten tea party people and I wonder how I can save up two thousand to get back to 'the holy land'. I could fire Christine but then I would be loosing my only friend. Yesterday I actually did walk across the street by myself to see a movie at the senior center, 'Soul Surfer', about a girl who was brave and determined to follow her dream even after a shark bit off her arm. Well Swami, I'm brave and determined to come back to India but who can beat off the tea party sharks? Am I making any sense?

A small story....

Once upon a time, there lived many fishes in a pond. Everyday, they would wake up in the morning with a dread - the fisherman’s net! The fisherman would be there every morning, without fail to cast his net. And without fail every morning, many fishes would get caught in it. Some would be taken by surprise, some caught napping, some would not find any place to hide while some others, even though aware of the lurking danger, would simply find no means to escape the deadly net.
Among the fishes was one young fish that was always cheerful. It had no fear of the fisherman’s net and it seemed to have mastered the art of being alive and staying lively. All the senior fishes wondered as to what might be the secret of this little fish. How could it manage so well when their cumulative experience and wisdom were not enough to save them from the net. Unable to bear their curiosity and desperate to find a way to escape the net, all the fishes went to this little fish one evening.
“Hey little one! We have all come here to talk to you.”
“Me!?” said the little fish, “What do you want to speak to me about?”
“We actually want to ask you something. Tomorrow morning, the fisherman will be back again. Are you not scared of getting caught in his net?”
“The little fish smiled, “No! I will not be caught in his net ever!”
“Share with us little one, the secret behind your confidence and success”, the elders pleaded.
“Very simple”, said the little fish. “When the fisherman comes to cast his net, I rush and stay at his feet. That is one place that the net can never reach, even if the fisherman wants to cast! So, I never get caught.”
All the fishes simply marvelled at the simplicity of the little fish’s wisdom.
When the Supreme Lord or the Avatar makes a descent into this ocean of world existence, the only way to escape the Mayajaal or the net of Maya or illusion that He casts is to take refuge at His lotus Feet.
What it means to be close to the Master's feet...
In a talk to the students, Swami made it crystal clear as to what it means to be at the feet of the Lord or Guru.

It was the year 2003 . All the students who had stayed back with Swami during the summer vacations, were in Brindavan, Whitefield, Swami’s ashram in Bangalore. Swami called all the students into His residence for the famous Trayee Session. As He sat on the lovely ornate jhoola, Swami decided to speak to the boys on the nine fold path of Devotion, the Navavidha Bhakti Marga.

He dilated in length on Shravanam IListening), Keertanam (Singing) and Vishnusmaranam (Remembrance) before arriving to Padasevanam (Worshiping the feet). It was here that Swami gave a unique interpretation - an interpretation that made one’s hairs stand on their ends with its meaning and significance. Swami said that people often thought Padasevanam meant service to the Guru’s feet. And that was the reason why everyone felt it was the easiest route if only Swami allows them to press and massage His feet. But that was not the actual meaning. Swami said that Padasevanam means to walk in the footsteps of Guru. To walk the path that the Guru walks is true service to His feet. And following the Master, is the first step to completing the game of life successfully.

In His Hands

Spent yesterday on the computer with visas and air tickets and like that. Also spent day talking to my sister....from the heart. Told her I was returning to India clutching a broken heart because I felt totally rejected by her, my only living sister and surrogate mother.. Told her that I had spend a year in this tiny apartment, waiting for her to call me. She suggested that I was trying to make her feel guilty. Then we attacked some of the issues which we've avoided for a year. I said they were misunderstandings but agreed that when I told her I had to hold my nose to eat the glog she fixed for me to eat...I agreed it was not the smartest thing I've ever said. She said then that she wouldn't ever cook for me again and I've been on my diet of frozen pasta entres ever since. They are a good solution if you're not a nutrition nut. I can find 7 or 8 different pasta meals each week to microwave for about 2.50 or less. No cooking and no washing dishes and many have a few veggies in them. V-8 makes up the veggie requirement. Hey don't knock it, it works and I've conquered diabetes 2 that way.. But where was I? Oh yes, my beloved sister. We ended our conversation with mutual love and some respect. I said that it had been a mistake to move out of the family homestead because we could have worked it out.

But in retrospect it's all in His hands and everything is perfect. I now have my own small place and am completely independent except for Christine who cleans for me but mostly is my only friend. Yesterday we went to Walmart and shopped for the week, she did to. But I'm getting ahead of myself. My sister came by at the same time Christine came and both were here when this travel agent I had found online, informed me that I couldn't go to India on a one way ticket. Round trip was 1400 and one way 850 or there bouts which I could have afforded . My sister was going to take us to fedex to mail application for visa. And then we were going to Walmart on the trolley. Isn't it neat that they have trolleys here. Christine showed me how to take one so I can do it again. Only trouble was we bought so much stuff we couldn't get it back home on the trolley and had to call one of her friends from this building to drive us home for gas money. But where was I?

You see how He worked that out? He's amazing as they say on TV. He had me reconcile with my sister by this non trip back home to India. He really didn't want me to go away hurt and rejected. Now her kids are another matter. I don't think we will ever be friends, too much anger and resentment and jealousy although she doesn't think they are jealous. OK, I'm jealous and always have been since she brought home the first one. She was MY MAMA and I needed her and there she was with that real baby in her arms and then another and another and another....In a normal family I would have been encouraged to...'would you like to hold the baby, Aunt Susie? Here, you can help change the diaper or give her the bottle. She's looking at you and smiling.' But I wasn't. I was ignored and so I went out to play with my friends. Well I'm 77 now and it's too late. I don't have any friends so I can't run out to play. My knees are too bad anyway and I have to pay Christine to be a friend.

So anyway, here I AM, Did youall read the Sept 15th Heart to Heart daily inspiration. It was so beautiful about the Atma being all pervasive and the smallest of the small and the greatest of the great. I wish I could copy it here. Maybe I'll try but in the meanwhile I'll ask our programmer to copy it on the blog. It will redirect your consciousness to where it should be, away from Walmart, away from family squabbles and even away from friendships and attachments. And that's all we want isn't it? Whether we are in the heavenly abode or living in a senior facility, we pray that He will expand our consciousness.

Dr. Victor Kanu lived for God

On 3rd September, 2011, Dr. Victor Krishna Kanu merged in the Divine Lotus Feet of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. His love for Bhagawan Baba can be appreciated through his inspiring words, dedication to service and his pure, selfless love. Dr. Kanu will always be remembered as a pioneer of Sathya Sai Education in Human Values. He is an inspiration to Sathya Sai educators worldwide.

Dr. Kanu implicitly followed Bhagawan’s every command and surrendered to Swami completely. With unwavering support from his noble wife, Mrs. Genevieve Kanu, he sold all of his properties in London to establish the Sathya Sai Schools in Africa. He happily sacrificed to help his fellow Africans, with the firm conviction that everything is ordained by God. He served Swami through the Sri Sathya Sai International Organization in various capacities. He was the Central Coordinator of Africa and the Director of The African Institute of Sathya Sai Education.
During the Sri Sathya Sai World Education Conference in July 2008 in Prasanthi Nilayam, Dr। Goldstein and I submitted the conference programme for Bhagawan’s approval and guidance। Dr.Kanu was included in the list of speakers, but we were not sure if Dr. Kanu could speak because of his poor health. Swami graciously blessed the programme and insisted that Dr. Kanu speak in His Divine presence. At the conclusion of Dr. Kanu’s talk at the conference, Swami lovingly blessed him profusely.

Dr. Kanu firmly believed that the Sathya Sai Model of Education would lead to the realization of the Divinity within us and thus, usher in the Golden age. He was convinced that only the Sathya Sai Education Model and the students of the Sathya Sai University and institutions could transform the world through human values: Truth, Righteousness, Peace, Love and Non-violence. With Swami’s blessings and guidance, Dr. Kanu replicated the Sathya Sai Education model in Africa, enabling students everywhere to reflect Baba’s life and teachings of love and truth.

During June 2010, Dr. Kanu was admitted to the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Prasanthigram for treatment of his heart condition. Bhagawan, in His infinite compassion, blessed Dr. Kanu while he was in the hospital. Shortly thereafter, he was discharged from the hospital and returned to Africa to continue to serve in the Divine mission with heightened enthusiasm and vigour.

Dr.Victor Kanu was a valued member of the education committee of the Sri Sathya Sai World Foundation. During the meeting of the education committee in Prasanthi Nilayam in July 2011, he echoed his sincere conviction that all the institutions, organisations and establishments started by Bhagawan should be treated with utmost respect and reverence. He emphasized the importance of all officers and devotees of the Sai Organisation working in harmony, unity and love in the divine mission.

In addition to his leadership in education, Dr. Kanu actively participated in many humanitarian works of the Sai Organisation. He helped coordinate the provision of food, clothing and medical relief to the needy. He was also instrumental in the Sainet project, which provided life-saving insecticide treated mosquito nets, in malaria endemic areas of Africa. In a one year follow up, there was a 50% reduction in the incidence of Malaria in the African villages where the Sainets were distributed.

Dr. Kanu is an exemplary devotee who loved and served Swami till his last breath. Dr. Kanu left his body while visiting Sierra Leone to oversee construction of a Sathya Sai Centre. Indeed, it is a Divine blessing to merge with Him while doing His work. Dr. Kanu will be remembered with reverence in the annals of Sai History for over three decades of loving service conducted with dedication, devotion and determination.

Jai Sai Ram.

With loving regards,

Narendranath Reddy
Director, Sri Sathya Sai World Foundation

Last Blog

This may be my last blog as yesterday in a fit of peak I filled out an application for a visa to India and bought a ticket on line for Bangalore. I read that notice from the Ashram Trust saying that Swami had lived for 86 years at Prasanthi Nilayam and so that it is a very powerful place to be and thought He must be calling me home. I have given myself only ten days to get the visa and ticket because my birthday is on the 28th of this month. I shouldn't have done that because I may not get the visa in time. All I can do is pray. Also I got the cheapest ticket on AirIndia because I have very little money. The first trip I ever took was on AirIndia and it felt as if Swami was guiding me that way again.. I had to give my credit card numbers which I hate to do, so again I'm praying. I can't tell you how confused I am this morning. I hope my mind doesn't break altogether. If it does, remember you read it here first.

I loved it here at Peterborough and might return to my little place. While it is true that I didn't have any friends or family here Swami did send me Christine once a week to clean. Mostly we talked because I was so lonely. How can you be lonely when God Himself has you by the hand? Good question! Maybe because He wanted me to be lonely so I would return to Prasanthi. My sister was my only family and she seldom called me even after she had Puggles there and must have known how disparately I wanted news of my little dog. I waited four days or maybe it was three anyway she didn't call, I read that statement from the Trust about the ashram being such a great place.....and spent yesterday getting visas and tickets. I do things on impulse. Is it Alzheimer or 'mild cognitive impairment'. I got my little dog on impulse which wasn't the smartest thing I ever did in my life....but I'm glad I did because now my sister isn't there in that big old house by herself. If nothing else, giving her Puggles was the one good thing that happened as a result of my being here.

I may not ever come this way again, Inshalla,as the Muslims say. It means that it's in the hands of God and we know that's certainly true. I got a multi entry visa so I can kind of go and come. I have a niece in California so I may come back from India the Pacific route. Now that is a fantastic family. Her name is Bethia, of course as everyone's is and she has a daughter teaching in China a son who graduated from Drama school and a daughter who's singing gigs all over southern California. But it's a small two bedroom house.

As you may recall I have issues about maturity. I've asked Swami a hundred times if He wants me to grow up, at age 77. He never would say but now since this trip I can see that no one on earth, kith or kin, wants you around if you're childish. It means that no one can count on you for a mature response and you can't pull your own weight. 33 years with Swami and He took care. So He has answered my question....the hard way. 'Sure, stay a childish person but you won't have...kith or kin around you. Get use to it. I guess that's why my sister's kids disliked me so much.

Unfortunately in the meantime I'm loosing my brains and can't really focus very well on anything. So again, all I can do is pray. Inshalla. until we meet again.

The Abode of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Prasanthi Nilayam, August 30, 2011:

Recently there have been several enquiries from devotees, particularly from overseas, desiring to know which location of Bhagawan in India is most appropriate for their pilgrimage.

Bhagawan’s Mahasamadhi is in Prasanthi Nilayam. The term ‘mahasamadhi’ here refers to the place of departure of an Avatar from His mortal coil. Such a place has profound significance in various faiths.

In some Muslim traditions, the holy tombs of saints are believed to be repositories of spiritual power where prayers would be particularly effective. Many scholars have noted that Buddhist communities were involved in relic and stupa (structure containing Buddhist relics, typically the remains of the Buddha) worship after the death of the Buddha. In the Javanese belief system, cosmic forces are believed to be constantly present at the holy tombs. Even in the Christian religious tradition, some believe that the saint in Heaven is present in his tomb on earth. In Hinduism, the tomb or mahasamadhi of a realized saint is regarded by many as having an incorporeal presence. In fact, the Upanishads state: “na tasya prana utkraamanti”, meaning that the pranas (life forces) of the saints do not leave their body to take up another, since the individual self has merged with the Totality. Shirdi Sai Baba had reportedly said, “Believe Me, though I pass away, My bones in My tomb would be speaking, moving and communicating with those who would surrender themselves whole-heartedly to Me. Do not be anxious that I would be absent from you. You will hear My bones speaking and discussing your welfare." Thus, the remains of the holy persons is revered and given great importance by faiths all around the world.

Indeed, Bhagawan Baba's abode is the entire Universe. However, He took a physical form at Puttaparthi and spent 85 years of His earthly sojourn at Prasanthi Nilayam as His primary home. Other places in India and other countries will continue to be the centres for their particular activities as guided by Bhagawan, who is present wherever His work is done, wherever His glory is sung, and wherever His Name is uttered. However, Prasanthi Nilayam is the location of His Holy Shrine or Mahasamadhi and will continue to be the Centre of Bhagawan’s Mission.

This clarification is being issued to remove all doubts in the matter and to state the official position of the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, Sri Sathya Sai Seva organisations, and the Sri Sathya Sai International organisations.

New Release: Compendium -- Sri Sathya Sai Organisations Worldwide (1965-2010)

New Release: Compendium -- Sri Sathya Sai Organisations Worldwide (1965-2010)

Prasanthi Nilayam, August 31, 2011: A compendium entitled “Sri Sathya Sai Organisations Worldwide (1965-2010) “ will be released on the holy occasion of the Ganesh Chathurthi on September 1, 2011. The compendium, consisting of a book and twelve DVDs, is a virtual encyclopedia of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s Mission, focusing on the Sri Sathya Sai Organisation’s (SSSO) groundbreaking work in its various project areas around the globe. These project areas include educare, medicare, and sociocare.

The work received Bhagawan Baba’s Divine blessings on the March 1, 2011. The compendium not only serves to broaden one’s knowledge of the work undertaken by the SSSO, but also to deepen one’s understanding of Bhagawan’s Mission of Divine Love and Service to the Society. The compendium is a collection of work undertaken by the SSSO in the last 45 years, in India and 135 other countries through text, images, presentations, and audiovisuals. It includes many inspiring articles, poems, books, and Bhagawan’s Divine messages, as well as a full account of Bhagawan’s 85th birthday celebration. As such, this work is a symbol of the Divine legacy of Bhagawan.
This Compendium has been brought about by Sri Indulal Shah, Trustee of the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust and also Advisor to the Sathya Sai Seva Organisations (Overseas). Sri Indulal Shah has remained as a dedicated instrument of Bhagawan for nearly five decades.
Truly a collector’s item, this compendium will be a good source of reference because of its sweep and authenticity. It is noteworthy that this work has been authored by Sri Indulal Shah, a pious Gandhian, and who has had a ringside seat in the development of the Sai Institutions.

Slow Dance

This
is a poem
written by a teenager with cancer.

She wants to see how many
people get her poem.

It is quite the poem
Please pass it
on.

It was sent by a medical doctor -
Make sure to read what is in the closing statement
AFTER THE
POEM.

SLOW DANCE

Have you ever
watched
kids On a merry-go-round?

Or listened to
the
rain Slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a

butterfly's erratic flight?

Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You better slow down.

Don't dance so fast.

Time is short.

The music won't last.

Do you run through each day

On the fly?

When you ask How are you?

Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done

Do you lie in your bed

With the next hundred chores

Running through your head?

You'd better slow down

Don't dance so fast.

Time is short.

The music won't last.

Ever told your child,

We'll do it tomorrow?

And in your haste,
Not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch,

Let a good friendship die

Cause you never had time

To call and say,'Hi'

You'd better slow down.

Don't dance so fast.

Time is short.

The music won't last..

When you run so fast to get somewhere

You miss half the fun of getting there.

When you worry and hurry through your
day,

It is like an unopened gift....Thrown away.

Life is not a race.

Do take it slower...Hear the music

Before the song is over.

Coimbatore, Sept 8 (PTI) A temple, claimed to be the first in the world having a shrine for Sathya Sai Baba was opened for the public on the city outskirts today. The Kumbhabhishekam (anointing ceremony) was performed at the temple in Samayanur, about 20 km from here, amid chanting of Sai Bhajans, Ramabadran, Managing Trustee of Swagatham Sai Mandir, said in a release here. A three-foot nine inch tall idol, with Saibaba in a sitting posture and with Abhayahasta (blessing pose), was sculpted in white Makrana Marble in Jaipur, he said.

Onam

Sai Ram,

This was Onam week. As usual this meant people from Kerala where it is probably there biggest celebration after Ganesha and New Years.

Four hundred people came who were part of a unique Sri Sathya Sai Rehabilitation Program where after having a heart operation at the super specialty hospital they were part of a special follow up program. Post Operative care was done in Kerala. Ex-patients and family celebrated “Hridaya Sangamam” which was a special get together in Parthi.

There were also about 500 teachers in addition to family members that came. Special meetings were held for the teachers and ex-patients in the conference hall on September 5, 6 & 7.

Monday – September 5. The crowd was small. However, the Kerala group was here out of gratitude to Sai. A nice group.

The evening was the usual great chanting of Rudram and singing of bhajans and arati as well as darshan.

Tuesday – September 6. The decorations were down. The evening program consisted of 4 people who all spoke in Malayam. However, They were good speakers. There was a woman who was intense with gratitude and Love about what had happened. Her words were unnecessary to communicate the message.

The program was about 35 minutes. It was great as each speech was short and to the point but filled with love and gratitude to Sai.

Wednesday – September 7. The big excitement was just after 4:00 with few people in the hall. Several policemen from Andhra Pradesh entered the hall. The lead officer was Dinesh Reddy who was the Director General of Police located in Hyderabad.

He evidently had not been here since the dedication of the MahaSamadhi. He was taken behind the curtain. After a few minutes, he and the others came to the front. The curtain was opened. After a few more moment, everyone went through the women’s section (no women seated yet) to the driveway passing the residence and other buildings as they left by the driveway gate.

The state was placed on alert after the bombing in Delhi earlier in the day and trouble elsewhere. Accompanying the DGP was the Rayalaseema inspector general, Govind Singh, and DIG, Ms Charu Sinha.

His family has a long relationship with Baba who stayed for a week in his uncle’s house.

Even though we were expecting a musical program for the evening, it was uncertain as to what was going to happen. It was great. Lively music with soothing sounds and an elevating spirit that placed me elsewhere. Don’t stop. But time was up.

The evening performance was spellbinding. The singing of bhajans in Sampradaya style by Vinaya Chandra Menon had everyone joining in. These simple bhajans were more energetic and very popular in South India. The energy of the place soared.

He sang 12 compositions in several different languages.

Thursday – September 8. Again the evening performance was outstanding. However the artists was a 12 year old girl who voice had us in a trance state by it beauty and perfection. Mahadevan, who comes from Kerala and has performed in many places in India, sang 6 Carnatic pieces during 45 minutes.

Afterwards, there was a solo by TS Radhakrishnan who usually performs at Onam celebrations. Bhajans which continued for 10 minutes ended with Baba singing Subramaniam … Subramaniam.

Friday – September 9. Kulwant Hall had more decorations today including banners that said the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organization of Kerala wishes a “Happy and Holy Onam 2011”. Today is the most auspicious day of the 10 day holiday. There were small banners in red, yellow, white and green with bigger ones at several locations. The perimeter of the hall was decorated and several places had the “Happy and Holy Onam” banners. It was a cheerful atmosphere.

The MahaSamadhi was decorated with beautiful flowers under the coffin area. It was pretty.

In the morning we were treat to bhajans led by people from Kerala. It was a nice change of pace.

At 4:00, which is usually a quiet time until 4:30, a small band in the center driveway started playing lively music from percussion instruments. At 4:30 Rudram started. At this time the band came out of the driveway to the men’s side. They stood in format and started playing a different type of music while Rudram was being recited.

This was not that unusual. Even in Baba’s processions on Birthday, Guru Poornima and other times, there would be maybe 2 bands playing different tunes and 1 or 2 groups chanting at the same time.

They continued for 15 minutes before stopping. The Rudram group kept going until the 5:00 stopping time.

The program for the evening was a drama and some other activities. At 5:00 there was some Vedic chanting followed by 2 speakers. The president of the Sai organization for Kerala, Mukundan, spoke briefly about all the activities that were happening within the state.

The special speaker for the evening was K. Jayakumar, the Additional Chief Secretary with the government of Kerala. He said that Baba showed what was possible by having lived his life as his message. His actions showed how we could reciprocate his message.

Two things that Sai left us to complete were to purify our hearts and to Love All-Serve All. He acclaimed that Prasanthi Nilayam will lead a worldwide revolution of Love.

At 5:40 the 55 minute drama entitled “Krishna Kripa Sagaram” began with a cast of Bal Vikas children and students from the Baba school in Aluva, Kerala. The drama which told many stories from Krishna’s life was mixed with songs. The finale was an intense prayer to Sai.

As usual they did a captivating job displaying love and devotion to Krishna and Sai. It was an enjoyable uplifting evening.

The crowd was very large. The hall was about more than half full. Considering the number of people we have been seeing, it was great to see a burst in the numbers.

Arati was just before 7:00.

Saturday – September 10. Most of the Kerala people left. The decoration had been taken down. The crowd was smaller today. There was Rudram, bhajans, arati and darshan in the morning and evening. A good day. Wonderful vibrations.

Attached is a small part of the Onam discourse given in August 1988.

Signs have been posted saying No Offerings. I guess people have been trying to leave money or even food at the Samadhi. Flowers are permitted as are letters and invitations.

A group of devotees from Indonesia – Jakarta and Bali did seva at the Western Canteen for about a week which included some Indonesian dishes each day.

Veda - Kamavadhani Garu, who was a great exponent of Vedas, lived many years in Prasanthi Nilayam and was close to Baba as was Dr. Bhagavantam served as a translator

Dr. Bhagavantam, out of curiosity asked Kamavadhani Garu “Swami quite often quotes many things in His discourses claiming them as said in Vedas. Now my doubt is whether all those what is Swami quoting as said in Vedas is really contained in Vedas”?.

Kamavadhani Garu replied “not only what Swami quotes as said in Vedas is there in Vedas but also what ever Swami says is also Veda”.

A Temple dedicated to Sathya Sai Baba has opened in Coimbatore, India at Swagatham Sai Mandir premises. The consecration of the statue which was made of 'makrana' marbles of Jaipur had been performed with all traditional Hindu rituals. The Sathya Sai statue was three feet and nine inches tall and weighed nearly 600 kilograms (over 1300 lbs).

I believe this dedication happened this weekend. At the same time, news comes that the Sri Sathya Sai Mandir in Uttarakhand was dedicated last Spring. It seems that there are at least 2 temples dedicated to Sathya Sai.

Seema had 2 messages – “The End of Misery” and “The Honorable Choice”.

The sacred Veda instructs everyone, all that is required for one’s spiritual advancement. It also instructs one in the means and methods to overcome all sorrows and grief, and attain peace. Since the spiritual quest was sincerely pursued along with material objectives, the sages of the past had the good fortune of receiving the Vedic message. Those ancient masters were so selfless and full of compassion and love that they shared what they had heard and enjoyed with all who approached them. Vedas are like the force of gravitation, present everywhere, at all times. Vedic Message can be received by anyone, as a result of their Sadhana (spiritual practices) as well as their capacity to concentrate and to experience the bliss resulting from practising it.

The giant tree called mind has two seeds, Vasana (impulse) and Prana (breath). The seed becomes the tree; the tree yields the seed. The breath moves because of the impulses; the impulses operate because of the breath. If one of these is destroyed, so is the other. So, to purify the impulses and make the mind free from negative influences, Ajnana (ignorance) has to be transformed. Ignorance does not exist alone; it has an offspring: Ahamkara (ego or selfishness), a demon. That demon has two children, Raga (attachment or passion) and Vasana, (impulse). They are closely interrelated sisters. Through attachment, one gets the feelings of me and mine, the feelings provoke desire, and desires breed worry. Therefore, you must remove ego, attachment and the impulses have to be annihilated. Through meditation and spiritual practices, you can conquer ignorance, ego, attachment, and purify the impulses. This will make you liberated.

The sea of illusion

Yesterday was a great day and I went to the movies with Christine. This apartment is such an ideal location for everything and we walked the few blocks to Bay Walk, the center of St. Pete. We saw the movie, HELP which is about the black people in Mississippi trying to get along just prior to the Civil Rights era. A white lady like me wrote a book about the maids and how they took care of the white children. They taught them to believe three things their white mama's never did, 'I am kind, I am good and I am important.'

I was also raised in the kitchen by Annie Mae because my Mama was having a hard time. She was older for one thing, 42, Papa was 53, and had had a heart attack so was retired from the army. It was the beginning of WW2 and he missed the war so he was depressed and she was struggling to make a life. A 3 year old baby girl wasn't really included in that package so I lived in the kitchen when I wasn't in Papa's room cheering him up. I was told repeatedly that I was the only one who could make him smile.

I warn you that this is a strange blog because I'm not quite in my body. You know that moment between dream state and being awake? Well I was trying to land and I'm not sure I made it....yet. Anyway I had prayed last night, for a blog as the last two have been so depressing my programmer called me long distance from India to question their posting. I said some negative things that really didn't need to be given to the wide world. So they were delited.

My sister also raised me in that joyless house because she was 10 when I was born and I was thrust upon her. She was imprinted on me like baby ducks are imprinted with the mama duck...for ever. Only they probably out grow it. I'm still trying but not succeeding. She married and moved away when I was six leaving me in the kitchen with Annie Mae. When she returned home again she had a baby, a real baby, her own baby. I tried to compete but was unsuccessful but then, the rest of the six babies came with her each summer that she came down to Florida, and I almost gave up...but not quite. In college I was sent by Papa to live with her and her husband and kids while I went to drama school. Then five years later I was sent to live with her to have psychotherapy. Little quack quack almost gave up .

College and 15 years of working with other deprived and emotionally abused children, as a social worker in California, partially erased the imprint but then my significant other died of cancer and...I took off for India and the unconditional love of the Avatar, Sri Sathya Sai Baba. I should add here that mama duck flew out and helped me to make that change. OK fast forward 33 years to the little duck waddling into the ancestral home again in desperation to her first mama who was now 86 and suffering with asthma. Quack quack I came in begging for help because after all those years in India I was really sick, sicker than mama duck.

Well you all know the rest, (you nameless faceless people of the web who probably don't exist anyway.) Mama duck is still trying to elude my pathetic grasp even though the six competitors have families of their own but have refused to step out of the race. I spend my days in this tiny apartment writing blogs and waiting for a phone call from mama duck....which is why yesterday it was so great to go to the movies. AND NOW FOR THE SPIRITUAL REASON WHY I WROTE THIS BLOG TO BEGIN WITH.

Who the heck is this bleeding little duck anyway, and what's more who is mama duck and Annie Mae. Right folks, they are just characters in MY MOVIE. They don't exist any more than I do...that is exist apart from the main character, Sri Sathya Sai Baba who wrote the damn play to begin with IN ORDER TO BRING THIS LITTLE DUCK BACK TO FULL CONSCIOUSNESS.

Two questions. First will my programmer buy this one. And second, will that mama duck, read this blog (she doesn't usually) and fly off in a cloud of feathers...finally free of this little 'lame duck' struggling here in the sea of illusion.

Ganesha Chaturthi - Parthi Report !

Sai Ram,

Its Ganesha Chaturthi time again which ends, in Puttaparthi, with the immersion of Ganesha of the 3rd day.

Vinayaka Chaturthi which started on September 1st can last up to 10 days. It is believed that during this time, Ganesha descends to Earth. Ganesha blessings are asked for including the removing of obstacles.

Special Ganesha statues are purchased or constructed for this occasion. At the end of 3,5,7 or 10-day period these statues are thrown into a body of water such as a river, lake or ocean. Vinayaka is asked to return again next year.

People are asked to use clay statues because they were environmental friendly.
It is a big celebration throughout India and in other countries.

Decorations were placed on Main Street and on some of the side streets. Lights with some of them blinking added to the joyous atmosphere.

Inside the ashram, the various Ganesha Statues were very busy. They had been decorated and people flocked to them. The main one by the entrance was busy for days as people prayed and broke coconuts.

Thursday – September 1. There were two excellent musical programs presented by the students in honor of Vinayaka (Ganesha) Chaturthi.

In the morning, for 45 minutes students sang special hymns to Ganesha and Carnatic pieces with interludes in English and Hindi.

Afterwards, students from Prasanthi Nilayam and Anantapur led bhajans for 15 minutes.

In the evening, it was the music college students who continued with the tributes to Ganesha. Their program was “Naada Brahmarpanam”. The music was interspersed with English, Hindi and Telegu comments. The audience loved it especially as they joined in with some of the songs.

Both morning and evening were examples of musical excellence filled with devotion to Ganesha who is really Sai.

Those who came to praise Ganesha got a strong dose of Baba as his vibration and Love permeated the hall.

Friday – September 2. Today there were considerably less people. I was surprised.
Wednesday and Thursday were national holidays. Today was a workday. Although tomorrow is an immersion day in many places including Puttaparthi, it may also be a workday. Today was Rudram, bhajans, arati and darshan.

Saturday – September 3. Today was the big day. The various tents setups with Ganesha statues in them provided free food. Later Ganesha was taken with big fanfare of beating drums and other instruments as well as throwing of kumkum powder of different colors and singing to a place of immersion.

In Kulwant Hall bunting and other hanging item that could interfere with the Ganesh procession in the afternoon had been removed by morning. The morning crowd was much less than expect in the hall but plenty of people continued to stop at the Ganesh statue at the entrance gate.

The afternoon had as its excitement the Ganesh procession. We wondered: Would it be as good as last year? Would there be as many? How would the reverence of the evening compare? This being the first time without the physical Baba but also knowing that Sai is always presence in Kulwant Hall.

All of these thoughts were answered. The procession was as good as last year. There seemed to be about the same number of chariots and palanquins. The reverence was inspiring. Everyone and everything was there.

The parade of floats came through the double gate on the men’s side and up the center driveway. They lined up along the white line on both the men and women’s side. Next was a procession of all the people involved and other students singing as they went around the mandir once returning to their spots. Following this there was a special dance performance to Ganesha.

The final procession before leaving the hall for immersion was to go up the center white tile toward the MahaSamadhi, say prayers, get blessed by the chief priest and leave.

Afterwards, bhajans continued until arati at 6. A great evening. Everything went well.
I am sure that Sai walked among the floats while they were stationary blessing them and the students.

RadioSai has part of the morning and evening programs on video and photos of all
the Ganesh floats at:
http://media.radiosai.org/Journals/Vol_09/01SEPT11/ganesh_chaturthi_video.htm

Sunday – September 4. In the early morning there was extra cleaning to be done on some of the streets outside the ashram from the debris and residues from Saturday. Kumkum powder has stained the streets. I guess it will take a nice rain to clean that.

The morning darshan was nice but the crowd was less than was expected.

A big screen was set up on both sides to show photos and videos.

Today was San Sannidhi day which is when several special events took place between Sai and the students. It was a special day for Baba to interact with students.
It still is.

The program consisted of 3 speakers who spoke for about 15 minutes each followed by a special music program. The songs that were sung had Baba stories in between.
At the same time a video showed scenes from Baba’s darshan over the years and at different places.

The speeches were devotional and uplifting. The songs were inspiring and soulful. The last one was Baba leading the bhajan which everyone joined in singing and clapping.

The first speaker spoke about the special relationship between Baba and his students. The second dealt with Baba’s mission of service to man is service to God.
The third person spoke about his personal interaction with Baba. Everyone can be a Sai student by surrendering to Sai and knowing that whatever happens is for own good.

In other news:

With all the talk about Ganesha, Elephant Day in Thailand, which was March 13th, was worth mentioning with pictures attached. Elephants are fed with banana trees, sugarcane and fruit during a feeding ceremony on the grounds at the Maesa elephant camp in Chiang Mai province, northern Thailand. The ceremony was held to mark the country's 'Elephant Day' participated by nearly 100 elephants. Elephant are recognized as the national animal of Thailand.

On Friday – September 9th will be Onam which is a major holiday in Kerala. Keeping with the tradition of recent years, many devotees from Kerala will choose to celebrate it in Prasanthi Nilayam. There are many special programs line up for the next week. Attached is the schedule.

A friend told me that that a lecturer had stated that he and/or others had seen Baba sitting on the Samadhi.

Also, there are various reports of Baba coming to people at darshan where only that person see him while those around the person don’t. In one case, a person was cured of mouth cancer while in the other the person took padanamaskar.

This is the time to come to Prasanthi. Everything is normal. However, blessings and contacts with Sai have increased. Come now before you lose this special opportunity. In years to come, every part of the ashram will be crowded. Come now! Enjoy the solitude and have special contact with Sai.

Attached is a special report that RadioSai did about this important holiday including Baba’s messages and experiences by students. Also, there is a story about Buddha, Baba and enlightenment.

Victor Kanu of Sierra Leone died on Saturday, September 3rd. At Baba’s request, he founded the Sathya Sai School of Ndola, Zambia. He was a long time staunch devotee of Baba. He had many illnesses but kept going. He was almost completely blind but didn’t care anymore because he could no longer see the physical Baba.

He had returned to Sierra Leone to dedicate a Sai Baba Center on September 2nd. The next day he suffered a massive heart attack. Attached is Radio Sai interview in July 2005.

Request to everyone writing to me: Until further notice, I need to have everyone put their email address after their name in the body of the email.

Vinayaka is the embodiment of intelligence. You will be confronted with many Vighnas (obstacles) in the journey of life. Prayers offered to Ganapathi - who is better known as Vighneswara - will help you by removing such obstacles and minimising impediments. Love is the most important element in life. Through love alone you can unify the world. It is the absence of love that is the cause of hatred. It is this hatred that is undermining human nature. Despite the fact that it is difficult to nourish hatred, while it is easier to foster love, people are engaged in doing what is difficult. From today, give up Swaartha (selfishness); turn your mind towards the Parartha (Supreme), lead a life of Yadaartha (Truth) and sanctify your lives. Place your faith in God and do your duty to the best of your ability. Saturate yourself with love and share it with all. If you earn the love of God even to the slightest extent, you will experience infinite joy.

Develop faith in God. All names are His - Rama, Krishna, Christ or any other name. Every man is the embodiment of the Divine. True human relations can grow only when this truth is recognised. The first stage is where you recognise "I am in the Light." Next, when you realise, "The Light is in me," and finally when you realise, "I am the Light." "I" represents love and light represents Jnana (Supreme Wisdom). When love and light become one, there is Realisation. Love should come from within, not be enforced from outside.

So long as attachment persists to the material body and possessions, worship of a material symbol is necessary. It is but a means. But many decry idol-worship as a superstition. This is not correct. We will find it impossible to love God or adore Him unless we meditate on some Form. That is a necessary stage in the process of living. One has to accept it as such. A tree’s value is estimated with reference to its fruits. To experience the Divine Principle, idol worship is and has been a great help to many.

Parthi Report !

Sai Ram,

It is quiet here these few days as a prelude to a busy period of Ganesha festivities and Kerala Yatra here.

Preparations for the Ganesh Holidays are under way in the village. Many streets have places where people can worship Ganesha along with a food distribution. A street coverings have been put up on Samadhi Road.

The weather has been sunnier and breezy.

Kulwant Hall still has the same decorations except that the big lanterns have been taken down.

Monday – August 29 & Tuesday – August 30. Two quiet days with a smaller crowd. Rudram, bhajans, arati and darshan.

Wednesday – August 31. As done in previous years, Sai Students put on a special program on this last day of Ramadan known as Eid-ul-Fitr

It opened with religious prayers which were followed by dancing interspersed with storytelling and singing. The program was uplifting and a reminder that all religions were basically the same. The beauty of Islam was recognized. Islam is more a state of mind than a religion - One where the mind is completely surrendered to Allah.

Baba was mentioned several times.

Attached is a Baba discourse from 12 July 1983 – Ramzan and a poem from
a discourse on 29 August 2009.

In honor of Ganesha, A Compendium about everything you want to know about the Sai Organization including its history has been released. See attached press release.

Also, attached is a press release about the abode of Sai Baba.

The name of this report will be changed to Sai Report on October 1st.

Also attached is a message from Seema called “The Precious Moment”.

If you want to be on the Seema email list, follow directions after Thought.

Thought for the Day
30 August 2011

The Quran lays down that all beings should cultivate the sense of unity, interdependence, selfless love and the immanence of Divinity. Prayer in a group produces beneficial vibrations. Prayer in Islam is also a congregational activity. Islam promises a greater flow of ecstasy when God is adored by a huge concourse of yearning hearts. All of them bow low at the sight of the Masjid (mosque). They sit in rows on their bended knees and lean forward until their palms and foreheads touch the ground in humble submission to God's Will. God is One and the teachings in all faiths exalt Him as Love, Compassion, Tolerance and Sympathy. Islam teaches that God's Grace can be won through justice and righteous living; wealth, scholarship and power cannot earn It. Sacred love alone can please the Lord. This is the message of every religion.

Baba

Thought for the Day
31 August 2011

Islam means surrender to God. Everyone who in a spirit of surrender and dedication, live in peace and harmony in society, do really speaking, belong to Islam. Islam insists on full co-ordination between thought, word and deed. In the month of Ramzan, the fast and the prayers are designed to awaken and manifest this realisation. Ramzan brings together in bonds of love kith and kin, near and far, friend and foe. Whichever may be the religion, its emphasis is on unity, harmony and equal-mindedness. Therefore, cultivate love, tolerance and compassion, and demonstrate the Truth in every daily activity. This is the Message I give you with My Blessings.
